RPM 9 Carbon
The entry-point into mass-loaded turntable designs. After an extensive period of research, development and testing the RPM 9 Carbon is now available as an alternative high-end turntable offering. Based on the same ?teardrop? chassis as its predecessor, the RPM 9.2 Evolution, but boasting similar improvements to the flagship?RPM 10 Carbon, the RPM 9 Carbon is a worthy consideration for any high-end analogue system.

The stylish plinth design has been chosen due to its improved resonance characteristics. The CNC-machined MDF structure is packed with resin-coated steel pellets to form a high-mass sandwich construction that provides a firm base for the turntable. The whole plinth is then put through a complex heat treatment process and coated in a carbon fibre surface to reduce resonance levels as low as possible. The main turntable structure is then effectively decoupled from its support thanks to the plinth’s magnetic feet.

The RPM 9 Carbon boasts a new 7.2kg polished aluminium platter, inspired by the award-winning Xtension 9 SuperPack record player. The platter is internally lined with Thermo-Plastic Elastomer (TPE) damping material and topped with vinyl. The whole platter sits on top of a high-quality inverted ceramic main bearing for a completely stable turntable speed with extra-low rumble.

As with all models in the RPM Carbon series, the RPM 9 Carbon uses a perimeter belt drive mechanism. The premium motor has an automatic speed change switch built into the top panel for easy changing between 33 and 45rpm. The motor also benefits from a built-in AC power generator PCB, to deliver a clean mains supply to the motor. The motor is completely decoupled from the main chassis and sits on top of a custom-designed steel base for improved stability.

The RPM 9 Carbon is supplied with the hugely popular 9CC Evolution Tonearm pre-installed. The 9” tonearm boasts a conical carbon fibre tube and inverted bearing design that allows for perfect tracking, even with demanding pick-up cartridges. For improved signal transmission, the tonearm is supplied with a 5-Pin to RCA Connect-IT CC cable.

Henley Audio also offer a special cartridge bundle service so you can get a matching Pro-Ject or Ortofon Moving Coil cartridge for up-to 30% off (read our FAQ).

The RPM 9 Carbon is finished with a heavy-weight record puck, completing a true high-end package that delivers a lively, engaging, musical performance.

Upgrade Your Tonearm

The tonearm is one of the most important parts of a turntable and therefore not only influences, but also shapes the sound in a specific way.

The all-new EVO and EVO premium tonearm ranges are the result of Pro-Ject's work from the last years, and they are proud to also offer new finishes and many additional improvements.

RPM turntables are true lifestyle statement pieces, with the Hi-Fi credentials to back them up! The type of turntable you'll commonly see featured on TV shows and movies, these minimalist, striking decks are hard to overlook and are sure to become a worthy talking point of any home gathering.

But as great as these turntables look, you'd be wise to not ignore the quality build and sound; utilising bonfide hi-fi technologies from conical vibration minimising feet to isolated motor assemblies, and materials such as carbon fibre tonarms and TPE (Thermo-plastic elastomer) lined platters, the RPM models walk the walk AND talk the talk.

  • Pro-Ject Audio Systems are masters of the analogue format. Their extensive range of turntables covers every use-case and budget, and most are sold as complete solutions with a pick-up cartridge readily installed. However, when you get to higher end designs, there is often not a pre-installed cartridge - as the choice of pick-up becomes ever-more personal.

To help in this situation, Henley Audio, as distributors for both Pro-Ject Audio Systems and Ortofon, can offer cartridge bundle and installation services that sees your high-end turntable sent ready to set-up and spin with your own choice of cartridge pre-installed.

Details of the cartridges we offer as part of this service can be found at the top of this page within 'promotions', but it covers premium Moving Coil options from Pro-Ject Audio Systems and the Ortofon Cadenza Series. For latest info or to discuss your requirements, Contact Us or speak with your local Pro-Ject Reference Partner dealer. If you choose to purchase a bundle cartridge and have your dealer fit it, or fit it yourself, the cartridge will be supplied securely and safely with the turntable, but not with normal retail packaging.

All cartridges installed at Henley Audio will be treated with the utmost care and attention and fitted by a skilled and experienced member of our team. The turntable it's being installed on will also be set-up for a brief test, to confirm compatibility. All Henley Audio installed systems will have a certificate of authenticity enclosed, for added confidence when you get the turntable home. There is a £25.00 +VAT charge to have a Henley Audio engineer install your cartridge, and there may be a minor delay to despatching your turntable as a result.

Cartridges installed onto high-end turntables as part of a "bundle" deal are classified as BULK stock, which means they do not have full retail packaging and accessories. This is one of the ways we're able to offer such great discounts for you.

  • Yes, it is possible for this turntable to be upgraded with a true balanced connection to a supporting Pro-Ject phono stage.*

For turntables with an RCA output, you can purchase one of our RCA > MiniXLR or RCA > XLR cables, depending on the phono stage you are connecting to.

For turntables with a MiniXLR output, you can run a MiniXLR > MiniXLR or MiniXLR > XLR cable, depending on the phono stage you are connecting to.

For turntables with a 5pin TAC output, you can purchase a 5P > MiniXLR or 5P > XLR cable.

For more information on the True Balanced Connection concept click here.

*True Balanced Connections always require a Moving Coil cartridge to be installed.

  • Many of our turntables may have multiple compatible counterweights available. The counterweight you actually need is the one that allows you to balance your existing cartridge while ideally sitting near the tonearm bearing when fully installed.

If your counterweight sits right at the back of the tonearm, it runs the risk of introducing some micro-vibrations, so aiming for a counterweight where your cartridge weight is in the lower range of the supported weights is ideal.

To help you make the right decision, we've produced a comprehensive list of all our tonearms and counterweights
