Xtension 10
In 2011, the Xtension 12 was introduced as Pro-Ject Audio System's first "money-no-object" turntable, having been designed to celebrate the company's 20th anniversary. The Xtension 10 takes all of that 20+ years of experience, and concentrates the Xtension 12 into a more accessible form at an even more appealing price.

The Xtension 10's structure uses a combination of the popular 'mass-loaded' and 'floating turntable' design principles. Most high-end designs tend to employ one of these principles, but the Xtension 10 uses both. It does this by placing the thick MDF chassis, which is filled with metal sand (making it very high-mass and anti-resonant), onto four powerful magnetic feet, effectively "floating" the heavy turntable above the stand on which it sits.

The platter used on the Xtension 10 is similar to that found on the RPM 10 Carbon, and is directly taken from the larger Xtension 12. The precision-balanced platter is made from a purpose-chosen metal alloy, which has then been damped on the inside with Sorbothane®. The top of the platter is finished with recycled vinyl records, which acts as the perfect playback platform for your records - without the need for an extra mat. The result is a resonance-free, heavy platter that runs ultra-silently on an inverted ceramic ball-bearing thanks to some added magnetic suspension.

Operation of the Xtension 10 is made effortlessly simple by the integrated speed control. Providing a clean, regulated power signal to the high-grade motor, the built-in speed control allows for easy switching between 33, 45 and 78RPM speeds. The useful step-function, also allows you to fine-tune the speed incrementally for absolutely perfect playback.

The Xtension 10 is sold with Pro-Ject's popular 10CC Evolution tonearm pre-installed. Constructed from carbon-fibre, the armtube is efficiently designed to lead parasitic vibrations away from the cartridge and into the heavy anti-resonant assembly, which guarantees precise cartridge tracking. For added isolation from the chassis, the 10CC Evolution tonearm is also mounted onto a sheet of Sorbothane®.

With its true high-end specifications, the Xtension 10 is capable of delivering a toe-tapping musical performance that belies the price. To help complete the package, the turntable is also supplied with a removable dust cover, and a heavy-weight record puck. Henley Audio also offer a special cartridge bundle service so you can get a matching Pro-Ject or Ortofon Moving Coil cartridge for up-to 30% off (read our FAQ).

The Xtension 10 is available in a variety of stunning finishes, from high-gloss paints to premium wood veneers. As of November 2019, we can also offer two stunning walnut burl finishes. Henley Audio work closely with Pro-Ject Audio Systems to ensure all these finishes are available to UK customers.

Many of our higher-end turntables do not come supplied with a pick-up cartridge. That's because the ability of the turntable is such, that it's more likely you will want to pick exactly the right cartridge for your system. With the Xtension 10, we offer some special cartridge bundles, available exclusively through your local Pro-Ject stockist. Check our FAQ for more info on the bundle and installation service.

Hi-Fi News review the Xtension 10 turntable

"Beauty is more than skin deep with the Xtension 10's wood plinth. If you look underneath (not so easy to do once the platter is installed) you'll see that the beautiful lacquer finish is continued all the way."

Hi-Fi News - Commended , Yearbook 2012

Yearbook 2012

"That gorgeous lacquered plinth and luxurious hinged cover make this every traditionalist's idea of what a turntable ought to be - and it even plays 78s. With its super-heavy platter, the Xtension 10 is a true high-mass design that delivers the sonic virtues of the genre."

Xtension model turntables take a step into the realm of 'stability through mass' as well as having magnetically decoupled feet. This makes Xtension TTs fairly unique in the High-End HiFi world. It is quite a task setting them up, something that an audiophile will relish, and once done you are rewarded greatly for your hard work. Sitting back and settling into your favourite album while basking in the monument-esc beauty of the turntable itself is an experience I'd recommend to anyone.

  • Pro-Ject Audio Systems are masters of the analogue format. Their extensive range of turntables covers every use-case and budget, and most are sold as complete solutions with a pick-up cartridge readily installed. However, when you get to higher end designs, there is often not a pre-installed cartridge - as the choice of pick-up becomes ever-more personal.

To help in this situation, Henley Audio, as distributors for both Pro-Ject Audio Systems and Ortofon, can offer cartridge bundle and installation services that sees your high-end turntable sent ready to set-up and spin with your own choice of cartridge pre-installed.

Details of the cartridges we offer as part of this service can be found at the top of this page within 'promotions', but it covers premium Moving Coil options from Pro-Ject Audio Systems and the Ortofon Cadenza Series. For latest info or to discuss your requirements, Contact Us or speak with your local Pro-Ject Reference Partner dealer. If you choose to purchase a bundle cartridge and have your dealer fit it, or fit it yourself, the cartridge will be supplied securely and safely with the turntable, but not with normal retail packaging.

All cartridges installed at Henley Audio will be treated with the utmost care and attention and fitted by a skilled and experienced member of our team. The turntable it's being installed on will also be set-up for a brief test, to confirm compatibility. All Henley Audio installed systems will have a certificate of authenticity enclosed, for added confidence when you get the turntable home. There is a £25.00 +VAT charge to have a Henley Audio engineer install your cartridge, and there may be a minor delay to despatching your turntable as a result.

Cartridges installed onto high-end turntables as part of a "bundle" deal are classified as BULK stock, which means they do not have full retail packaging and accessories. This is one of the ways we're able to offer such great discounts for you.

  • Yes, it is possible for this turntable to be upgraded with a true balanced connection to a supporting Pro-Ject phono stage.*

For turntables with an RCA output, you can purchase one of our RCA > MiniXLR or RCA > XLR cables, depending on the phono stage you are connecting to.

For turntables with a MiniXLR output, you can run a MiniXLR > MiniXLR or MiniXLR > XLR cable, depending on the phono stage you are connecting to.

For turntables with a 5pin TAC output, you can purchase a 5P > MiniXLR or 5P > XLR cable.

For more information on the True Balanced Connection concept click here.

*True Balanced Connections always require a Moving Coil cartridge to be installed.

  • Sourcing the right counterweight for your tonearm is important, as it allows you to get the optimal match for your cartridge. So exactly which counterweight you need depends on your tonearm model and the cartridge you need to balance.
